about

Shedding Waste (2016) by Dennis Sullivan

A duo for tenor saxophone, table top percussion, and voices "Shedding Waste" is a comparison of hi-fi vs. lo-fi sounds. Each timbre produced by the tenor saxophone is mimicked by a found or discarded object in the percussion setup (minus the melodica). These sounds are placed directly next to each other for a 1-to-1 comparison and combined in a multitude of ways to produce new timbres still relating to the saxophone’s sonic palette.

Premiered by Popebama on April 24, 2016 at JACK, Brooklyn, NY. Recorded by Popebama January 9, 2019 at Adelphi University Performing Arts Center, Garden City, NY.
